Maple Cabinets Outnumber Others In Cabinet Trends Reported at KBIS
An article recently published by Cabinet Maker+FDM magazine covered trends their staff uncovered at the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago. Most striking, according to the report, is that most major stateside cabinet manufacturers sat out this year's KBIS, while more cmpanies selling Chinese-made cabinets were on hand.
With 60 percent of the market share, maple cabinets were displayed most frequently, Cherry took the second spot with 16 percent, whilc birdh (10 percent), oak (6 percent), alder (3 percent), and pine (1 percent) were also shown. Chris Graber of Cabinets by Graber was quoted saying trends include larger islands, taller and deeper cabinets, and using a "cool" color with a "wild" color.
Overall, more dark finishes were seen than medium finishes. Distressed, white paint, and matte finishes also increased their market share. Specifically, according to the report, dark stains accounted for 19 percent of those shown, while medium stains came in with 17 percent and light finishes claimed 14 percent. White and off-while painted finishes accounted for 12 percent of cabinetry shown.
Cabinet Maker+FDM staff reported that wood and glass doors were seen in 34 percent of the cabinet displays. Popular accessories shown this year, in descending order of emphasis, were crown molding, open shelves, furniture legs, wine racks, islands, wood hoods, and rope molding. Some displays also showcases enhanced accessibility for age-in-place and ADA compliant cabinetry.
