Gail Adkins — Spring Hill
Design Company: Change Magic Interior Redesign
Describe your personal style: Eclectic, energetic and unexpected—sometimes whimsical. Words I love to hear when I finish a project are: “How spacious…You made the room larger!” “I can feel the difference!” and my favorite -- “I never would have thought of that!”
Describe the project: This staging project was a large home on the market just after real estate began its formidable slowdown. The homeowners had already purchased another home and had begun the process of decluttering, painting, upgrading fixtures and appliances, and landscaping. We eliminated all but a few essential furnishings in order to emphasize the fabulous flooring, the abundant natural light, and the outstanding yard views from ample windows.

Anna Aycock — Brentwood
Design Company: Designs by Anna Aycock
Describe your personal style: Traditional, eclectic, warm, and inviting I want my home environment to nurture my family.
Describe the project: I adore the look of this room! My clients wanted the room to be stately and formal, yet welcoming to guests and family members. We accomplished this by using a curved sofa in a luxurious silk accented by warm rich tones of red. The decor looks like it belongs in a “cozy” castle.
Your favorite part of the project: It is hard for me to isolate just one aspect of this project, because the success comes from the graceful composition of all aspects of the room. I do, however, feel that the rich and colorful rug serves as an excellent ground for the space.
Favorite splurge for this project: The sofa and rug were my favorite splurge. My client would agree that it was worth it!
Favorite bargain for this project: I love to shop for bargains and enjoy saving money for my clients. The only “bargain” in this project, however, was using the existing coffee table and end tables.

Favorite splurge for this project: The dining room table.
Favorite bargain for this project: Twenty salvaged crystals from a dismantled estate chandelier were incorporated into the design and fabrication of the draperies.

Describes their personal style: I get to know my clients well—I want to know what pleases them and then help them create an environment that celebrates those qualities and sustain them.
Describe the project: The draperies are a sheer silk and are 160 inches long. They frame a spectacular view. The finials are a pair of artichokes and the drapes are held back with large silk tassels.
Your favorite part of the project: The faux finish on the walls and ceiling are spectacular. It features large rectangular blocks with a great deal of texture. The “stone” sections stand out from the mortar and joints. The blocks’ slightly metallic bronze finish is dramatic and infuses the room with a warm glow. Each seat has a beautiful view.

Describe your personal style: Objects and furnishings to be well-placed with a touch of whimsy here and there. I prefer classic colors such as navy, black, burgundy/red, rich greens, and gold. I like a variety of prints and textures. Traditions and family are important to me therefore I believe a home should be a collection of your life’s events and memories.
Describe the project: This master bedroom was large and has a dramatic ceiling with crown moldings and beautiful furniture. But, the room had no personality. Adding artwork and accessories the client already had and purchasing bedding and window treatments transformed this room into a warm and relaxing master retreat.
Your favorite part of the project: Seeing my client's face when the room was complete. She had no idea that her room could be so beautiful.
Favorite places to shop for home decor in the Greater Nashville area: Trees & Trends, Brentwood Interiors, Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx, PD's in Franklin.

Describes their personal style: I value a natural style and love that which is uncomplicated, not trendy. I like the imperfections of antiques and surround myself with lighter colors and natural fibers, like linen, and objects which have a lot of personal meaning to me.
Describe the project: The goal for this client was to achieve a warm, inviting window treatment for the master bedroom for this six-sided bay window. They wanted as much window showing as possible, while softening the space. The client needed the option for total darkness on mornings when they could sleep later, so the draperies have blackout lining and are fully functioning.

Julie Walburg — Nashville
Design Company: Julie Kay Design Studio
Describes their personal style: My personal style can be described as timeless comfort, using classic design elements in a modern fashion.
Describe the project: A condo in Chicago's Montgomery Ward building. I used 1-in. x 1-in. stainless steel tile on the fireplace to bring in a bit of glitz in a masculine way. To enhance the space, we designed custom-made suspended riveted-steel bookshelves, painting the backdrop black to further accentuate the niches. The book collection was strategically placed for the needed color element..
Your favorite part of the project: Transforming a dull space into something extraordinary is what I strive to do. I believe there should always be a small element of surprise in each room.

Billy Williams — Nashville
Design Company: b.williams design
Describe your personal style: I would describe myself as multi-stylistic. My personal preference is clean, straight lines, geometric shapes, and exaggerated curves, but I also like pieces that are incredibly formal and architectural, and I really don’t have qualms about mixing the two elements in the same design.
Describe the project: The original floor plan for this mid-1980s Brentwood kitchen was basically a cube in the center of the house with an L-shaped cabinet layout stuck in one corner. The clients entertain often, sometimes up to 50 people in their home, so they needed lots of seating and a more open flow to the house. We created an 11-foot opening between the kitchen and family room and enlarged a 32-in. door to 48 inches into the dining room. A large island in the center of the kitchen houses the cooktop and seats four people.
Your favorite part of the project: Hearing my clients say how well it functions for large gatherings.
Favorite splurge for this project: The granite countertops. I’m a big fan of natural products; no matter how beautiful man-made products are, you can’t get the randomness that nature provides.
Favorite bargain for this project: Refinishing the existing hardwoods in the kitchen.
What can serve as your design inspiration: Anything from breakfast cereal to fine art. Any-thing can be your design inspiration. Quite often the simplest thing, like a color, can be the spark and I allow the job to evolve.
Designers you admire: Candice Olson: Stephan Walker of Walker Designs and Lisa Selvig of Creative Services by Lisa.
Easiest way to make a room look pulled together: Hire a professional. Reduce clutter; organize, organize, organize.
Words to design by: Color outside the lines. Have fun with the project, and there should always be a splash of red in every room.
