Tossing and turning are the stereotypical symptoms of someone in need of a new mattress. The International Sleep Product Association says that a mattress may still feel comfortable when it is no longer providing the support necessary for a restorative night’s sleep.

It’s time for a new mattress, the association says, if you wake up stiff and sore, and, in general, every five to seven years.
Mattress trends include luxurious pillow tops which offer additional cushioning and extra deep mattresses ranging from 14 to 16 inches and more, but that’s only the beginning of the luxurious options available.

Hypnos, headquartered in England but with an office in Franklin, has been producing handmade beds for four generations and its mattresses retail for as much as $20,000. Other notable mattresses range from one infused with lavender scent to those boasting a natural rubber core.

The Lavender Comfort by Magniflex features lavender aromatherapy covering fabric and is hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant. It is certified by Oeko-tex to guarantee absence of any substances harmful to humans or to the environment. This two-sided mattress offers customizable comfort, with one side offering firmer support and the other offering a softer, more plush feel. Nanotechnology allows millions of microcapsules of lavender to be infused into the mattress’ covering fabric. Upon contact with the skin, the microcapsules release the pleasing natural aroma of lavender to encourage relaxation. Retails for $1,899.

Offered by Hollandia Inter-national, the 3D Collection features a proprietary 3D fabric with raised fibers for maximum air circulation allowing for cooler sleep. The cover is removable and washable so the sleep surface can be kept pristine year round. The 3D covering fabric is braided and raises the sleeper off the mattress to circulate air and minimize trapped body heat. The 3D retails for $2,500 with a flat foundation or $6,000 with an adjustable foundation.

OrganicPedic Lago by Organic Mattresses Inc. features a naturally porous and breathable 100 percent natural rubber core and a built-in topper quilted with Eco-Wool™, which naturally regulates body temperature. The mattress regulates temperature and moisture, creating a comfortable sleeping environment, and is also naturally resistant to mold, mildew, bacteria, and dust mites. OrganicPedic® queen-size mattresses range in price from $1,995 for the Classic to $3,795 for the Terra.

Gold Bond’s Natural Latex Mattress Collection features a naturally porous and breathable 100 percent natural latex core with a natural wool and silk blend on top quilt. This mattress is guaranteed with an industry-leading 15-year warranty and retails for $999 to $2,799 in queen (models in this collection range from 8 inch to 15 inch thick mattresses).

The PureFit Mattress by Relax The Back features a moisture-wicking bamboo fabric to keep the sleeper cool and dry. The extreme open-cell memory foam core offers increased breathability while built-in lumbar support relieves pressure and increases circulation. The PureFit Mattress is the first plant-based memory foam mattress made in the U.S.A. The mattress offers seven zones of comfort which gently contour to the sleeper’s shape from head to toe, relieving pressure, increasing circulation, and offering a deeper night’s sleep. It  retails for $1,699 to $2,299 in queen.
