sunrooms for all seasons

The beauty of adding a sunroom to your home is having extra year-round living space with the feeling of being outdoors and not having to fight the outdoor elements, according to Darryl Myers of Mr. Enclosure Sunrooms. “The options  can range from just shelter overhead to a screened porch, to a three-season sunroom, to a four-season sunroom,” he says.

Dede Bailey of Better Living of Nashville reports, “Most people want an ‘outdoor’ space that feels like a screen room but affords them much more in lifestyle. Most people don’t demand formal space such as a conservatory.”

“It’s a trend that began a few decades ago with inviting the neighbors over for burgers on the grill and it continues to evolve.

It’s the desire to capture a little of that vacation ambiance, if only for a few hours a week,” says Tim Brock of Brock Enclosures.

“Often a screen or sun room is simply the anchor of a larger plan that may include an outdoor kitchen, water features, and more.”
Lyle Merdler, speaking for Patio Enclosures, says his company’s projects recently have been smaller—such as enclosing a porch—or larger—involving greater engineering detail and more options such as custom roofs, specialized glass, extensive blinds and shades, heating and cooling, and hot tubs and spas.

Shane Stratton of Stratton Exteriors suggests that a sunroom gives the homeowner a place to enjoy morning coffee with the family and family gatherings for the holidays. He says homeowners should determine the best location for a sunroom before planning the details.

Experts agree that overwhelmingly new owners of sunrooms say they shouldn’t have waited to make the improvement to their homes. Some experts have noted that instead of building the next big house, some homeowners are adding on to their present home, and choosing a four-season sunroom for the purpose.

The trend as an affordable way of increasing value in a house, as well as fitting the overall general trend of moving living outdoors.
